Hela Lamine x Skander Ben Yahia "Still Life" Live A/V: The second live set have been created for the closing of the Nabta program. The French Agency for Development and INCO&CO commissioned Skander Ben Yahia to accompany Hela Lamine's "Still Life" visual experience with music. The result was the development of a live performance based on Hela Lamine's visual work and a performance at the program's closing evening at the Institut Français de Tunisie.
« Still Life » is an immersive, narrative, and contemplative virtual reality experience that immerses participants in a journey into the depths of an envisioned "living nature" created by the artist Hela Lamine, exploring transformation and adaptation as essential means of survival.
Skander Ben Yahia, -U- for HybridRealities :Lab's exhibition : "-U-" is a virtual environment created to imagine what digital limbs would sound and look like. It is a space designed to be silly with an evil intention. This work has been done in the framework of Six Minutes Past Nine and Mnemozine’s Hybrid Realities :lab, a 7-week online program, resulting in a virtual exhibition on New Art City.
Near Stoic Releases: Metamorphosis EP was released under Skander's Near Stoic pseudonym through Gated Recordings. Additionally, a track was featured on the Air Texture label's Various Artist compilation curated by Azu Tiwaline and Shinagami San.
A/V Live Creation: an immersive A/V live experience blending experimental and beat-driven music was crafted collaborating with Skander Jaïbi and Jaco Schilp. The performance premiered for Modulation during the Etmaal Festival in Utrecht, captivating audiences with its innovative fusion of 3D visuals and daring soundscapes.
Launch of Sirr-al-'Asrâr: Skander initiated Sirr-al-'Asrâr, a collaborative project with Skander Jaïbi, dedicated to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities. This initiative explores evolving melodies, harsh sounds and fractured beats as a means of conveying its message. Their debut unfolded with the release of the track "Awal al Asrar" featured in the Mrama Division "BY ALL MEANS" fundraiser compilation. This charitable initiative directed all raised funds to Medical Aid for Palestine (www.map.org.uk), supporting a crucial cause through their music.
Near Stoic Performances: Skander, performing as Near Stoic, presented two distinct sets. The first was a live performance based on the "Notebook (Thoughts & Short Stories)" album, part of Tunis Sur Seine's (FRA/TUN) celebration of Bisque's (CH) 10-year anniversary at Petit Bain in Paris. The second was an ambient DJ set for Uncloud x WAS. clubnight in Utrecht, showcasing Near Stoic's diverse musical range.
Near Stoic's debut album: Skander made a significant mark in 2021 with the release of Near Stoic's debut album titled "Notebook (Thoughts & Short Stories)" on Third Kind Records, a UK-based label known for its vibrant musical offerings.
Live album preview: The album received a preview through a captivating live performance held during a collaborative event between the Uncloud and LeGuessWho? festivals in Utrecht.
Exploration of Melodies and Emotions: In 2020, Skander devoted his focus to modular synth research, delving into the confluence of melodies, emotions, and generative music. His endeavors centered on exploring human-machine interactions, specifically delving into pattern evolution techniques reminiscent of artists like Keith Fullerton Whitman, Steevio, and Caterina Barbieri.
Emissär releases: Skander released two EPs under his Emissär alias. "Useless Algorithm" on ANAØH [MEX], where the track "Chi" was notably selected in ANAØH's Best of 2019, and "Psychose" on ENOTAKTIK [FIN].
Compilation Feature: Additionally, Emissär contributed a track to ANAØH's Hate & Tenderness 002 compilation, further solidifying his presence within the electronic music scene.
Memorable Performance: Emissär delivered an unforgettable all-night-long set alongside Clotur at Concrete's Woodfloor. This performance took place mere weeks before the club closed its doors, marking a memorable moment in Emissär's live repertoire.
Exploration of Melodies and Emotions: In 2019, Skander started to develop generative patches on his modular system.
Curatorial Role and Performances: in 2018, Skander co-curated and performed at a notable joint party between Zoll Projekt and CDT at Petit Bain in Paris. As part of this event, he collaborated with HOB at Rinse France. Additionally, he showcased his talent at another Zoll Projekt night, sharing the stage with Calling Marianne. Furthermore, he was invited by the CARE/MESS Collective to perform at L'International. Each of these performances was executed under the Emissär alias, demonstrating his versatile presence within the electronic music scene.
Collateral Damages releases: Skander, under his Collateral Damages alias, released two EPs - one on ARTS Recordings and another on Taro Records. He also contributed a remix for Parallel Ground on Connective Records, showcasing his diverse musical output.
Curatorial Endeavors and Performances: Skander curated three Zoll Nachts events under his collective Zoll Projekt. These techno-focused club nights featured renowned DJs like Christian Wünsch, Edit Select, and Lewis Fautzi, alongside emerging talents such as Blazej Malinowski, Parallx, and Kwartz. Additionally, Skander performed at the Zoll Nachts events under his Emissär alias, contributing to the vibrant techno atmosphere.
Debut Release as Collateral Damages: Skander marked his debut under the Collateral Damages alias with a release on the Dutch label Otomo Trax, unveiling his music to a wider audience.
Founding of Zoll Projekt: Skander, alongside friends, laid the foundation for Zoll Projekt in Paris, an initiative born while he was still based in Tunis. This venture marked the beginning of a collective dedicated to fostering electronic music experiences and cultural exchange.
Music Feature in "Collarbone": Skander's music was featured in Kenza Zouari's short film "Collarbones," showcased in a short movie competition held by the Goethe Institute in Tunis.
